Overview
Bengal Gram or Kadalai Parauppu are rich in protein and fiber. This helps in body growth and assists those who have lost weight due to nutritional deficiencies to gain weight. Additionally, it holds vitamins, mineral content, iron, and B vitamins. Providing dishes made from Bengal Gram regularly to children will help them increase their body weight and achieve proper growth.
Ingredients
Bengal Gram or Kadalai Parauppu – 250 grams
Urad dal – 1 teaspoon
Green chilies – 3
Onions – 3 (medium-sized)
Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
Asafoetida powder – 1/2 teaspoon
Oil – 350 grams
Salt – to taste
Curry leaves – a handful
Coriander – a handful
Cooking Method
- Soak Bengal Gram or Kadalai Parauppu in a bowl with water for two hours.
- Chop the onions finely and keep it aside.
- After two hours, drain the soaked chickpeas well.
- In a mixer or grinder, add soaked Bengal Gram, green chili, cumin, asafoetida powder, urad dal, and salt. Blend them without adding water until it becomes a coarse paste.
- Only if you grind it coarsely, the vadai will come out crispy when fried.
- Place the ground mixture in a container, then add onion, curry leaves, and coriander and mix well.
- Keep the stove on medium heat.
- Place the oil pot on the stove and pour in the oil.
- Heat the oil. Roll the mixture into small balls. Place each ball on the left palm and gently press with the right palm. Then, drop into the oil.
- Occasionally turn the vadai with a ladle. Only then will both sides of the vadai cook well.
- Take it out when it is well roasted and place it in a container. Serve it hot with coconut chutney to everyone.
